UDST Recognizes Academic Excellence at Annual Awards Ceremony

Fifty undergraduate and graduate students honored across eight award categories, with featured recognition for innovation in AI-powered productivity applications and research achievements.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) held its Annual Academic Awards Ceremony, recognizing 50 students for outstanding performance across various academic disciplines. The event, attended by Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, featured Hind Al Kuwari, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Oryx and Growth Advisor at Alumni Owned Business, Adeer, as guest speaker.

Students were honored in eight categories: Academic Excellence Award, Academic Merit Award, Academic Distinction Award, Foundation Program Award, Industrial Trades Dean Award, Achievement Award, Applied Research Award, and Innovation Award.

Recognition Across Academic Levels

The Academic Excellence Awards recognized students with the highest weighted averages in their respective programs. At the master’s level, Tasneem Omer Madebo from the College of Health Sciences, Master of Science in Diabetes Care and Patient Education, received the award. The bachelor’s degree honor went to Tasnim Hassan Soliman from the College of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Technology.

For advanced diploma programs, Abdulla Obaid Al-Shamari of the College of Engineering and Technology, Advanced Diploma in Chemical and Processing Engineering Technology, was recognized. Thabshira Sahanath Murichandiyil from the College of Health Sciences, Diploma in Pharmacy Technology, received the two-year diploma Academic Excellence Award.

Innovation and Research Achievements

The Innovation Award recognized two students for distinct technological contributions. Ayomide Alabi from the College of Business, Bachelor of Business Administration in Applied Accounting, led the team project ZAUN App, an AI-powered productivity platform combining to-do lists and calendars into a behavior-based scheduling system. The application secured third place in the Al Fikra Entrepreneurship competition, won the DMZ-UHUB Pitch, and gained acceptance into the QSTP INCUB8 Program.

Amelda Zalva Zahira from the College of Computing and Information Technology, Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, received recognition for her team’s second-place finish at the ‘Reboot the Earth’ Hackathon with HarvestHub.

The Applied Research Award went to Ralph Benedict Capili of the College of Engineering and Technology, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering – Processing Engineering. His scholarly contributions include two peer-reviewed journal publications, a presentation at the London International Youth Science Forum, the UNESCO 2023 Future Designer IIDA Bronze Medal, recognition at the Qatar Youth Science Forum, and first runner-up at UDST Skills Day.

Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, reflected on the ceremony’s significance:
